VIDEO: Shaping Creativity for Grand Rapids Youth

Arts education fills up students in healthy ways, contributing to all that we want for Grand Rapids kids: academic achievement, social and emotional development, civic engagement, and equitable opportunity. Yet with school budget cuts and ongoing pressure to raise standardized test scores, funding for arts and culture programs has been reduced. In this Michigan Nightlight video, we look at why art and culture is so important and who is filling the gaps. From a multidisciplinary platform, the video will showcase extracurricular programs that expose kids to art, music and literature while connecting them to their community in meaningful ways.
